What Happened this Year

Christmas was just yesterday, and already this Christmas season is becoming a blur.  I wish it would just slow down and and not feel so crazy busy.  I even had all of my shopping and crafting done before December.

As I take the tree down and put the decorations away (yes, you read that correctly.  I am one of those people who can't handle having it up longer than nescessary.), I reflect on how busy and hurried the season is.  For the life of me I can't figure out a way to slow down and enjoy it.  The sad part is, we really didn't have a lot of places to be or things to do this year.

Christmas and presents started at the beginning of the month for me.  We had a family home evening with my Dad's family and did a Christmas Party for it.  I really don't like it when things like this happen so early in the month, let's take it a little slower.  I always try to have my Christmas cards out by the 12th, so that adds to the stress of things.

With work and all of the stuff going on with the kids, I have felt swamped.  We picked Christmas break to try to potty train our youngest, I kind of think that was a bit insane, but we didn't have to have the other two up and dressed for school.  With all of the houses I have been cleaning for people, I don't know how I fit it all in.  Needless to say, we have been super busy this holiday season.

For Christmas morning, I decided to do breakfast here and have my parents come (By the way, this was so much easier for me.  My parents are in their 40's and there is only my brother left at home.  It was easier for the 3 of them to come here rather than drag out all 5 of us).  It was so nice to be able to stay home.  We went and visited his Mom later - she only lives three blocks from here.  We didn't go anywhere else the rest of the day.

The kids were able to play with their toys, and we watched Christmas movies without traveling.  I might do the same thing next year.  We chose to do this when we found out that Matt was working so that I didn't have to drive by myself.  It was so nice.
As far as my tree this season, it started out all decorated with a bunch of ornaments.  Between Dakota and Austin, most of my ornaments were destroyed.  The tree was nicely fluffed when the season started, it looks like crap now and even a bunch of my light bulbs aren't working.  Let's just say that Kody was a total monster and Austin was almost three and I got sick of fixing the tree and ornaments.
I am so glad that it is coming down now.

I hope next year is better.
