A New Life

We got this dresser about 1 1/2 years ago and it has been sitting in the shop, waiting for me to get to it.  Our girls really needed a larger dresser to hold all of their clothes.  Well in the meantime, while waiting to get to it, we went to Ikea and picked them up a new dresser.  I love how well the new one holds all of their clothes, with room to spare.

Because we got a new one for them, there was no rush to get this one fixed and finished, until...Matt decided he wanted to get a larger fish tank eventually.  Well while looking for a place to put a larger tank, we discovered that the kids were going to attack anything that we could buy at the store, the durable stuff is all more than we want to pay, and the stuff in our price range that they won't attack - won't hold the weight of a 20 gallon fish tank.

No, Matt has not purchased his tank yet.  Matt doesn't do anything until he has researched it and we are ready to take that step.  We still had a lot of work to do on the dresser, before it was ready for this job.
This dresser was in a really bad way, when we got it.  It has has some water damage and mold, the drawers were seperating, and the thing smelled like cats had peed on it, yuck.  I cleaned the thing like crazy, I sanded it to death, I patched the seperating areas, and painted it.  Just for the record, a lot of work.

The colors aren't what I was wanting in a living room, but you do with what you have.  This dresser will eventually go into Chey's room (unless we change our minds and decide to keep this one in the living room) when Matt moves his office out to the shop.  But until then it will be a fish tank stand and extra storage for the living room.

I really love how it turned out.  This picture is a truer representation of the colors.  The spring green really just livens everything up.

I linked up over at The Shabby Creek Cottage for Transformation Thursday.

  1. Wow, so much better, right? Love the pop of green!

  2. I think it turned out awesome. I am loving it. Thank you for the compliment.
