I have loved apple butter for years and have never had the guts to make it myself. When I saw this recipe in Fix It And Forget It Lightly, I decided to try it out.
108 oz. apple sauce
2 c. cider (I used apple juice, because that is what I had on hand)
Cook on high in the crock pot for 3-4 hours.
1 TBSP cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves or 1 tsp. nutmeg (I like spices so I used both)
Add spices and cook 1 hour more.
Sterilize jars and fill with apple butter.
I checked to make sure how many would fit in my water bath canner.
Heat lids and put on with rings, just to finger tight.
Put jars in water bath canner. Fill with water to the rims and bring to a boil with lid on. Let boil for 30 minutes.
Take out and allow to cool.
Here are all of the jars I did, there were 16 in total.
I always make sure to label what I have made.
I also label the box ahead of time.
I am thinking I will give these out for Christmas in a few weeks. I am very happy to say that every single one of my jars sealed.
