This week I actually had to plan the lesson, because Matt was working overtime. I am not one for teaching, but this week I GOT to. So we are still working on Marriage and Family. The lesson manual has a lot of good suggestions, but the one that caught my attention was "What opportunities are there for learning and teaching in the home?
In studying my lesson, I thought about my job as a mother. It is my job to teach the Gospel to my children. I thought about all of the ways that I teach my children and all of the things that they have to learn. I was reminded of all of the things that I am supposed to be doing such as Family Home Evening and family scripture study.
Elder L. Tom Perry said "Through all the fast-paced changes occurring around us, we earnestly pray and work to ensure that the values of Jesus Christ endure. Already some of them are in jeopardy of being lost. At the top of the list of these values and, therefore, prime targets of the adversary, are the sanctity of marriage and the central importance of families." This quote really resonates with me, I feel like with such fast paced lives a lot of really important things suffer.
FHE may not always seem like it is such an important thing, especially when we attend church the day before (or whatever day others plan it). I think that it is the little things that make a large difference. What you do every day is what really makes the impact. Sunday School General President: Tad R. Callister said "When all is said and done, the home is the ideal forum for teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ."
I think that personal and family prayer affect us in different ways, we struggle both personally and as a family. I believe that we should be studying the scriptures by ourselves as well as with our families, that way we have others who can help us understand the things that we don't get. I think that FHE helps our children learn to teach the lessons that they will one day teach in church. All of these activities help us to grow closer to our families and our Father in Heaven.
By the way our treats were Rice Crispy Treats drizzled in chocolate.
