In Genesis 6, Noah was told to save his family, throughout the rest of the Old Testament we follow the family lines. The entire Old Testament is a book of Genealogy and the stories of what happened to their families. It is a bunch of journals from these families.
In the Book of Mormon, Lehi sends his sons back into Jerusalem to retrieve the gold plates which contained his families genealogy. The entire Book of Mormon is based on the journals of many people. Apparently the plates were of great importance to him.
In the LDS Church we are told to do our genealogy, sometimes our forefathers were great at keeping records other times they weren't. I feel that it is important to know where you come from and to know the stories of our families. I love the thought of being able to tell the stories of my family, I also love being able to do the temple work for my relatives who have past on. Being able to do the work for past family members is important, because they never had the opportunity to do it themselves.
I really feel strongly about genealogy. This week for our Sunday school class, Matt taught a lesson on genealogy (since it has to do with marriage and families) he was able to go back to before the time of Christ at least. I was amazed to see how much of his genealogy was done, it was just crazy. I haven't logged into see how much to the LDS Church's genealogy program to see where my family goes to.
I really love to see all of the different names, and how many children people had back then.
