Saturday Morning Scripture Study

For the month of September, Matt and I are supposed to teach on Commandments.  I know that God gave us more commands that just the 10 Commandments, but I decided that I would focus on the most famous 10 for this week in my studies.  I feel that the 10 Commandments are great basic rules for any society to live by, but I also feel that they are so basic that they shouldn't ever have been needed.  If you have a conscience then you really shouldn't need anything like the 10 Commandments.

I feel that you really shouldn't have to tell people not to kill, commit adultery, steal, bear false witness, or covet.  No person with a working conscience would kill people (unless it is in self defense), do you really need to be told.  There are many risks associated with adultery, do you really want to deal with all of that.  Stealing just makes everyone mad at you, I wouldn't want that.  Why would you want to tell lies about someone (bearing false witness)?  Coveting things that other people have, just keeps you unhappy.

I understand some groups of the time were poly-theistic, however most today are not.  I really don't have a problem with putting other gods before our Father in Heaven.  I certainly will not make/obtain any idols to worship, to me that is just weird.

The biggest problems that I think that society has today is taking the Lord's name in vain and not keeping the Sabbath day holy (aside from all of the other problems that aren't mentioned in the 10 Commandments.  I am always hearing people use our Father in Heaven's name as foul language, I feel sad that people don't have enough respect for their creator.  I am always puzzled that God gives us a day of rest and people do everything else.  All God expects from us is to rest and Worship him.

I think it is sad how many people today still need their hands held, and who still can't obey God.  I will go and do the things which the Lord has commanded, at least to the best of my abilities.
